Mike Ingersoll Discusses NIL Issues with UNC Law Students

On March 29, Womble Bond Dickinson business litigation associate Mike Ingersoll presented to students at the University of North Carolina School of Law regarding recent developments with Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) issues in college sports.

Ingersoll's comprehensive presentation covered essential topics concerning athlete NIL representation, including negotiating with collectives and independent businesses, the variety of deals accessible to athletes, NIL compliance requirements and pitfalls for universities and athletes, and repeated NCAA bylaw changes governing the treatment of collectives. In addition, Ingersoll shed light on the differences between NIL opportunities for revenue and non-revenue sport athletes and the potential impact of NCAA bylaw revisions on the NIL landscape for high school recruits.

Ingersoll's litigation practice includes class action defense, trade secrets, shareholder disputes, civil rights defense, sport and entertainment law, real property, and internal investigations and compliance. A former player in the National Football League, he is also a member of the firm's sports and entertainment law team. He remains active in league affairs and serves on the board of directors for the Charlotte chapter of the NFLPA's retired players division and the Charlotte Touchdown Club.
