Meet Alexandre de Gramont | Partner, Washington, D.C.

As a veteran of high-stakes international arbitration and business litigation disputes, Alex de Gramont knows that teamwork drives success. Even the best lawyers need a support system around them that allows them to maximize their capabilities.

Alex certainly had no shortage of options in 2024. Many well-known firms sought to add him to their rosters. But he wanted to join a firm that values collaboration—and he says he found that in Womble.

“I just like the people. I like the culture. I like the firm. On a more practical level, it had a really good mix of practices that I need to serve my clients. Mining practice, energy practice, life sciences. It just had all the pieces, both on an emotional level and an intellectual level.”

He describes Womble as an “incredibly well integrated” firm where it’s part of the culture for attorneys to work across practices and offices. As the leader of the firm’s International Disputes Practice, this integration makes it easy for him to build teams with the exact skillsets he needs for a particular case.

“You don't need to have offices all around the world to be an international arbitration or international disputes firm. It’s more about the mindset than about the geography.”

After more than a year at Womble, Alex said he absolutely would make the same choice again.

“A lot of firms make promises. This firm really does everything it can to keep them,” he said. “And when the firm says it wants to build a practice, it’s serious about that. It's not looking for new books of revenues, it’s looking to become the best firm it possibly can be for its clients.”
